Self-care through the Aces

Mental Health Awareness Week is such an important time for drawing attention to this oft-neglected part of our lives. Tarot is great for self-reflection (as well as fortune-telling!) so for MHA Week, I created four sets of prompts, all based on the Wildwood Tarot’s Aces, to help people go within and start seeking for some clarity in the realm of Action, Thought, Emotion and Experience.

This process of internal inquiry shouldn’t be limited to just one week a year though, so I have added the prompts here so that they can provide a starting framework for anyone who is looking for direction.

All you have to do is promise yourself as short period of time, alone, every day, with a pad and pen and start thinking about one or more of the prompts. And write down what comes to mind – and maybe one small step that would help you be more authentically you in the world.

The more work I do, the more important it is (I believe) that our inner landscape of ethics, beliefs, internalised line in the sand should be fully integrated into our exterior world; that we can fearlessly walk our talk in our everyday lives.

Sometimes that’s not possible – maybe it’s a luxury for many people to be able to present their full selves in the world. But despite the difficulties that there may be, I believe we should strive to live as integrated a life as possible – because when we are integrated in this way, our lives are better.

Got doubts about that? Well, just think – how good do you feel when you have to disguise/lie/stay silent about what you think, what you feel, what you are doing and how you present in the world?

Day 1: The Ace of Bows

Day 2: Ace of Arrows

Day 3: Ace of Vessels

Day 4: Ace of Stones

I hope that you find these prompts useful – I’d love to hear from you if they spur any insights.
